Hello Ames and beyond !!What can I say? It's been a long time. I miessd the reunion by 4 years, but all of you are still in my heart and still shaping my being. Keith, thank you for doing this. It seems like Kismet today .I was talking to a young friend about the politics of yore and was reminiscing about the day when, deep in the bowels of the student union, where the offices of the Young Republicans AND the Young Democrats were directly across from each other in a narrow hallway. It was the day the Young Republicans were expecting a famous conservative speaker. (For the life of me I cannot remember the guy's name. I believe it was right after Alan Ginsberg came to visit us). Anyway, there they were, all decked out in those short sleeved white shirts with ties and black shiny FBI shoes. There we were .faded work shirts, jeans and boots. And we all had buttons and beads. Then the door opened at the top of the stairs and we all heard the heavy foot falls on the cement stairs. The black shiny FBI shoes came rushing out of their office. We just stuck our heads out to see ..the great Mr. Conservative Orator. The foot falls got closer. Then his feet were visible. He had on boots!!! Dusty ones even. Then his denims came into view. The collective intake of breath almost sucked all the air out of the hallway. He was almost to the bottom of the stairs when his not short hair appeared. Needless to say, some folks were a bit perplexed as their invited guest spent more time in the office of the Young Democrats instead of the other office across the hall. But instead of it being a disaster/embarrasment for anyone, what I remember most about the rest of the afternoon was a magnificently educated and civilized discussion with all the occupants of both offices contributing to the communication in such an intelligence that we all came away with knowledge instead of judgements. I miss that. Hugs, love, peace and respect,Barb BeattiePS Does anyone remember who that guy was? I want to say Luce but am not sure.
